On October 1, 2026, Yamanashi Prefecture and all 27 of its municipalities adopted GMO Sign, the electronic contract service provided by GMO GlobalSign Holdings K.K. According to the company’s research as of the end of September 2026, this is the first time in Japan that a prefecture and all municipalities within it have jointly procured and adopted the same electronic contract service. By sharing a single service, the local governments aim to streamline contract operations, including the printing, mailing, and in-person handling of contract documents, and to standardize procedures for local businesses that contract with multiple municipalities. The initiative also supports Yamanashi’s “Smart Shrink” policy, which seeks to maintain and improve public service quality amid population decline. GMO GlobalSign Holdings will support smooth adoption and operation, and will continue to contribute to more efficient contract operations, support for local businesses, and environmental protection through paperless processes.
