GlobalSign Expands SSL Certificate Intranet Option

Tokyo – November 14, 2008 – GMO Hosting & Security consolidated subsidiary and digital certificate service provider, GlobalSign K.K. announces new capabilities for its SSL certificate Intranet Option. As of next Monday (November 17) SSL certificate reissues will be made available when customers add or remove Intranet names. GMO Hosting & Security is a GMO Internet Group company.

Intranet Option enables SSL encrypted communication for intranet environments such as an organizationfs internal network. Local namespaces and Windows computer names used in an intranet can be specified within an SSL certificate ensuring it can be used across the common name (FQDN) and local names.

For example an SSL certificate issued for the common name www.globalsign.com may have server01 set as a local network computer name.

At GlobalSign we have increased the number of Intranet names that can be registered and continued to upgrade our Intranet Option. The latest new feature allows for flexible reconfiguration of networks by allowing the certificate reissues when an Intranet name is added or removed. This represents a major shift from existing Certificate Authority services that offer certificates issued once and valid for a specific term, to a revolutionary service that allows options to be added or removed and new certificates to be issued anytime. Customers save on certificate repurchases for only the cost of the option.
This latest enhancement is a direct response to the many requests we have received from customers since the launch of the Intranet Option service and is testimony to the advances GlobalSign has made following its transformation from distributor to a service provider operating its own Certificate Authority. GlobalSign strives to continue drawing on its strength as a Certificate Authority to develop leading edge services.

*Certificate reissues after adding or removing names are available for Organization SSL and EV SSL. Reissues are not available for Quick Authentication SSL.
* Additional charges apply for each additional name registered. Length of validity depends on principal certificate. Please visit our web site for more information on validity and prices. http://jp.globalsign.com/service/ssl/option/intranet.html (Japanese only)
